Ficus climb in Australia 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Just wanted to share this climb with others.
A big tree by Brisbane standards around 45m. This tree is the mother and host to so many forms of life. Countless epiphytes and vines. Climbing had to be very careful so not to damage orchids. This time I did not have to climb past a (harmless) carpet snake which I am glad about.
The only issue I had with climbing this Fig is that another tree that had fallen into it many years ago. So It was supporting two climbers and another fig.
The branch I climbed on had some fibre buckling on the compression side but large ropes of reaction wood on the tension side. Fig trees are amazing at responding to stress loading.
By the way this species is a strangler and the remains of the old tree can be witnessed on the way up. What a view!
Respect to Tengu
Cheers

Nice shots. Great to see some woody friends from the flip side of mother earth. Is the "host" tree hollowed out in spots? Sounds like an adventure for sure.

How is Tree Climbing Australia coming along? Any word from the council?
Keep us informed on whats percolating down under.

Hope to see you down in your trees this winter.

Respect,
tim
