Well I see that you are our newest member on this message board so let me first say welcome.

As for your question...well the first thing you need to do is to get properly trained. As you can see if you look at the post "freeclimbing" under the "general discussions" category, we are about safety, for us climbing, those on the ground, and also for the trees. To summarize, we are always tied in to the tree with at least one tie in point and when advancing past that there is a time when we may be tied in at two tie in points. Our safety record is exemplary and, as falling out of a tree would kind of ruin that, we have a lot of safety built into our technique(s). I think that if you read the "All About Tree Climbing" _link_ on the left side of this site and look at the "Photo Gallery" you can start piecing together the how and why's of what we do. Let me just say as someone who had not climbed in probably 30 or so years until I took the Intensive Basic Course two years ago, it is COOL and all the capital letters are intended. If you have never seen Technical Tree Climbing then you are in for a real treat.

I will let some of the others on this site, fill in other details. But one thing that will help our knowing what and how to say things to you is to let us know about your experience. Do you climb now and if so what are you doing. That would be a great start.

I will let it go at that for now and I hope to talk with you again.

Good Luck to you and again welcome aboard!

Take the time to go through the archives on this site.

Read a copy of The Tree Climbers Companion, if you need a vendor let us know.

Stay tied in at ALL times!

It is easy enough not to fall,

Method #1: Be supported by the rope, not the tree, you will have to do this some time to get beetween some branches.

Method #2: Get a be_layer_, someone you would trust with your life. Climbing trees can be more enjoyable with someone to talk to.

P.S.
I may be a Newbie, even newer than you (The newest), but I've been climbing for a couple of years.
