Ascender bungees and reel deployment tape 4 Years, 6 Months ago
Anyone using light bungee cord between their upper and lower ascenders? I re-read the March 2002 Smithsonian article and discovered this tidbit to free a hand for the ascending. All you have to do is move the upper ascender and the bottom one follows as soon as you lift your feet in the stirrups (we are using CMI Ultra-ascenders with stirrups - from New Tribe). We have found a simple trick to prevent the mono. line from snarling - a piece of painter's tape on the line (right on the spool or if using a rod, tape the line lightly where your finger would otherwise hold it). Also, I have sewn a small loop of 1/8" throwline to the end of my climbing rope and whip stitched it in place so there is a taper on the end of the rope - no more knots getting hung up! Wahoo! Got pictures...
