Distances we travel for a climb 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Hey all. Awhile ago I came across this quote while looking through the board: "I’m discouraged that very few of you seem to have an interest in taking your climbing out into the forest"
And it begs me to question the distances or landscapes we travel to for a great climb, or any climb for that matter. I personally will travel anywhere from a few meters from my house up to a good hour hike for a tree I’ve spotted while bushwalking.
I can spend up to an entire day walking through the bush looking for a tree or to climb the next day.
So heres the question:
The typical distances we drive, hike or anything of the sort to the trees we climb?
And secondly:
Do the distances you travel affect the gear you take with you?
I personally take all my gear with me, no matter the distance, ‘just in case’ I get the urge to set up something while out bush.

In an automobile, too much gear is never an issue. However, hiking into the woods on foot? Now that can be a problem. . .

I got my gear pack down to 30 pounds (13.5k). That is simply too heavy for a long trek through the swamp & briars! I also pack my gear on to a mountain bike but you can’t drive a bicycle very far off trail. A bicycle is usless in the heavy brush.

Aussietreeclimber raises some good questions here.
I would be very intrested to know the weight of a full backpack for some of the other members here. I don’t mind hiking a few miles through the heavy brush to get to a good tree, but with 30 pounds strapped to my back? Forget about it!

What does your full pack weigh, and how far can you haul it into the woods? ? ?
