I was not referring to the tree itself (it is a Cedar Elm). I am asking about the cork looking wings growing along the opposite side of some of these branches. It looks to me that as the bark streches out to allow more radial growth there is a lateral split along the opposite side of the branch tissue and some of the meristematic tissue protrudes along it and creates a "wing" looking formation. It does not look to affect the health of the branch. It just looks interesting and a curiousity. I am pretty sure it has some kind of Scientific Name given to it.
