I purchased this helmet to be used for tree climbing, rock climbing, and rope rescue. After about an hour of trying to fit it right on my small head, I decided to return it. Even though the manu. says this helmet's range would fit me, I couldn't make the proper adjustments. It sat too high, and moved a lot on my head.

Later I found out that there is a second size - a smaller size, but most retailers do not carry it.

I like the looks of the Vertex but it doesn't work out for me-despite the wide range of adjustment it doesn't sit well on my pointy head.

The only helmet I've owned, other than an old fiberglass caving helmet I've trotted out for tree climbing when others are in use by students or guests (and various biking helmets over the years).

It's comfortable; I tend to forget it's on (and it's much lighter than that old caving helmet...). It's very fast and easy to adjust (there's this handy dial in the back of the head band). You can open or close the vents. It does indeed absorb shock pretty well (I periodically bounce throwbags off of it when throwing within the tree).

I have only ever used one other helmet, so I don't have a lot of perspective, but my knoggin feels very safe and comfortable in the vent, so I certainly can't complain about it. One time I had a 14oz. throw-weight come back down that bounced weird off of a branch right above me and the impact was absorbed completely by the helmet, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I've heard other people talk about it's weight, and I was concerned about that because I can easily get headaches from hats that are too tight or heavy, and I've never had that happen with my vertex vent. I appreciate it's versatility in terms of ventilation (living in the north and using it on both hot and cold climbs), and it feels extremely durable.

Out of all of the helmets that I have tried on, the Vertex Vent was the most comfortable. It gives you great air circulation, and is very comfortable. It is very durable and is also not very expensive.
