This review refers to the pictured Su-type sleeves. I liked these a lot when I first purchased them. They are far and away the quickest and most convenient to place on the branch; if the rope slides over, one of these will too, and they generally stay put once placed (but see below). They are compact and light and fit easily either in the rope bag or in with other gear. The tight bending radius is especially nice for the pine trees I spend a lot of my time in.

Two issues:
- Don't use them in really cold weather (single digits or below). I know; most people aren't nuts enough to climb under those conditions anyway, but you'll have a particular problem with this tool if you do. The plastic housing becomes a) more slippery, so that the sleeve won't easily stay on the branch, and b) brittle, so that it cracks.
- Once the plastic housing is worn or cracked, the sleeve begins to break down, as Andrew notes, and it will shortly be unusable.

That said, I may actually be replacing my broken one soon, unless something handier comes along before then.

The sleeve pictured above is the more flexible Elliot Su designed variant of the traditional Dan House Sleeve. The traditional version is highly durable but less flexible and more bulky to carry. a very good all-round sleeve.

I've now worn out 3 of the "Su" variant House sleeves in two months. I love their flexibility and portability but am very concerned about how quickly the cover wears out. Inspect any of your sleeves before climbing.

What really sets this sleeve apart from the old school leather ones to me is the fact that they can get rolled up pretty compactly so that I can carry two of them in less space than one of the rigid leather ones would take up. This makes it really easy to carry a second sleeve in a pouch attached to my saddle aloft, or sometimes I stash my second one in the leg pocket of my cargo climbing pants (and sometimes forget that it is there). They do their job well, and seem to hold up very well.

Very simple tools to use. I usually carry two with me. They are about one year old now and they still in great shape. I make sure never to drop them hard from the trees to prevent internal damage. I replaced the tape along the edges with stronger tape and permanently sealed the end caps. These flexible sleeves are easier to install in the tree than the older version. Nice tool get a couple!

Simple, efficient, easy to use. This is our primary device for protecting our trees when climbing. These are extremely durable and easy to use.
