need instruction- have great trees! was created by cedwards
I have 3.5 wooded acres 45 min. south of Buffalo NY. Looking for instruction within a days drive. Or maybe an instructor would like to come visit? I have some AMAZING tress on my property and also know many, many, other places we could go climb.

Here is a post of mine that caught my eye.

I am sure that in a state as large as NY there are rec climbers and or arborist that would jump at the chance. If there are more of these near you then I will have to visit there someday. Until then- who else is close?

Giant Trees near Buffalo

During a websearch look what I found.

So who in nearby for a field report??

This place is about 25 min from my home. I have been there and it is INCREDIBLE!!!!! Zoar valley itself is a beautiful place but these trees ae something to behold- especially in the fall. Come visit anytime- I'll take you there.

I haave heard of Zoar Valley. I used to know some people that climbed there, but that was years ago. They ranted about the trees. How about some photos or tree descriptions? Tree specie, diameter, etc.

Hello C Edwards; I have been an instructor with Peter at TCI for 9 years and have my own business Tree Climbing USA here south of Atlanta.

I am planning on doing some training in northern Ill. and southern Mich. between now and June. Also I will be in Ohio in April and again in July/ August. Perhaps
I could dovetail one of these trips with a training session with you.

Had I known of your desire last summer we could have met up on my way south from Toronto. You can email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or log on to my site at www.treeclimbingusa.com and post a message on my web site.

Until; Safety in and for the trees worldwide! Abe

You caught my attention...
If your going to do a summer training session somewhere closer to New Jersey than Atlanta, I might be interested.

Mr. Edwards trees and Mr. Winters instruction. Might this be a possibility?
I have equipment & will sign a release.

Are you a member of ENTS? None of the e-mail adresses worked for me when I went to the site. Are they still up and running?

YES YES YES! Abram I would love to find a way to connect with you and take some lessons. I will send you an e-mail and we can connect. I spoke with Patty the other day and would really like to get to Atlanta but I'm not certain about the $$ with that yet. It blows my mind that something like this doesn't exist around here with all these great trees. Ground dwellers- sheeesh ;)

Electrojake- sounds ok with me. I am totally new at this so I would have to find out about the legalities involved with people climbing on my property. It is also possible we may have to head into some of the local forests to climb as what I consider "great trees" may really be for "advanced climbers" as most of them are 80-100 ft tall with branches starting higher up than most of the pictures I have seen on this site.
My fantasy is to get up in this HUGE Beech that I have and watch the sun set over Lake Erie.

Cheers,
Chris

Looks like we might have a great gathering location in the northeast.

I know that whoever you join up with will have to have a great time.

Let us know who and when you get aloft.

I started a thread over at Treebuzz.com and there are some local arborists that might be willing to join up and help start another grove.

The thread title is at: Who wants to climb these bad boys?

See you at the top,
Dan

Congratulations to Mr Edwards from trying to learn the ropes to start a new grove. I am sure that Abe will be a great support if you are able to meet w/ him and take some training. I meet him last year in NE and he is a positive and easy going person willing to listen and to teach.
Dan (treetramp) was also very friendly and helpfull (treetramp). I wish you lots of luck and fun climbing. I did some climbs today and will post some of the experience and questions on the Climbing Technique thread. :D
