It is amazing to find that there are zero climbers in the New England area, it can't be for the lack of great trees to climb :-) I guess the thing to do is schedule a climb and see who shows up. I'll start working on a location. It will probably be in eastern Mass. unless anyone comes out from underneath the pine needles and suggests a good location of their own.

Good to see you on the board. Did you take the basic tree climbing course or the three hour intorduction climb. There is a big difference in content.

Tell us about your name, Castanea. Any cool meaning you can share?

I know there are other New England climbers. They just need to be flushed out and encouraged, that's all.

I am in Maine right now and will be busy until mid august. Perhaps we could meet up right after that.

New England Tree Climbers,
My name is Pete Bronski - I'm a writer doing a story on tree climbing for AMC Outdoors magazine, which focuses on the Northeast and New England. I'm looking to interview a few area tree climbers via telephone for my article. If you're willing and available in the next week or two, please drop me an email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Many thanks!

Quercus is cliche. Castanea....much more original. Maybe you could modify it?

Castano? or something along those lines?

I'm going to be in Portsmouth, NH to teach a class on 8/24-25. Is there any chance of connecting with some climbers for a day or maybe an overnight tree camp?

I can take you on a woods climb in the Boston area on Saturday 27th or I might be able to swing a day off on Thursday 25th or Friday the 26th. I don't have an overnight location scouted at this point that's not ninja. I can work on getting access for overnight climbing. I have some interesting city locations for day climbs.

Any other New Englanders have suggestions for climb locations within striking distance of Portsmouth, NH?

I'll let you know what firms up for the date as soon as I can. It is unlikely that I'll bring my portaledge but I wil probably have camping gear along. It would hardly seem right to come all of the way out there and not camp a day or three.

Man. I knew I hadn't checked into this board in a while, but I didn't know it was THIS long ago.

I'm a pretty new climber living in SE Connecticut. I haven't taken any formal training, but have been doing OK following the books. I'd be thrilled to get together for a climb with some of you guys. I've tossed out a couple of messages in this section looking for others, but as you noticed, we new englanders are somewhat reticent.

Anyway, I'll send an email to you to get any info you have. Feel free to email me at <sandberger@adelphia.net>.

Castenea, where in CT are you? Maybe we could find a place between us to get up in a tree or two.

I've been talking with Docteric in eastern Connecticut. We've scheduled Saturday, August 27 for a day of climbing. If you'd like to join us send email or U2U.

Not sure of the location yet, we'll post it when we figure it out.
Thanks,
-moss
