Hey everyone !

I'm Timothée Facon, I'm a french guianese tree climber.
I have my french certification to work on the trees (certificat de spécialisation de taille et soins aux arbres), I have been a tree climber since 2013.
Today I wan't to discover the international community of tree climber.

I want to learn new techniques for climbing trees, I want to have new knowledge about tree biology.

I want to travel to meet other climbers and new trees.

See you later !

Hello Timothée,

Welcome! TCI has many international friends, and I think you are our first from French Guiana. Glad to see you here! Please tell us more about yourself and the trees you climb.
Best wishes and be safe in the treetops!
Patty

Okay no problem :)
for the work I climb trees that we find a lot in the city, like mango trees, coconut trees, mombins (mombin spondias). Eucalyptus sometimes. Palm trees like tarpaulin palm (Mauritia flexuosa).
In the forest there are many different tree species (more than 1600 identified by scientists, and even more unidentified). The one I’ve already climbed for example:
Dodomissinga (Parkia ...) or Ficus .
There are ebonies, there is the famous cheese maker (Ceiba pentandra) which is a sacred tree.

For my part, I have the ambition to gather the tree climbers of Guyana around an association or a movement, such as the tree climbers union in France, so that we can network and exchange effectively.
That’s why I look from right to left at what has already been done in the world. As for your association!

It is an opportunity to exchange ideas, to create a network, to exchange our knowledge and to organize meetings in different countries! : D

Hi Timothée :)

I'm a Botanist from Ireland looking to gain my tree climbing certification.

I will be completing 3 months of my MSc degree in Kourou, French Guiana later this year.

Can you recommend how I might gain my tree climbing certification in French Guiana through English?

All the best,
Rich

Hi Rich,

I myself live near Kourou, and I know a few climbers who work with CIRAD and IRD scientists to climb trees and conduct studies in the canopy.

One of my colleagues gives short trainings to learn the basics of tree climbing. For the moment there is no complete training in French Guiana, it is necessary to go to metropolitan France to obtain a diploma.

When are you coming to Guyana?
